This pendant was made for a classmate I wanted to trade jewellery with because I desperately wanted one of her pieces but couldn't afford it. I simply adore her style and her work. I did some etching this year and I really love it. I got so many cool photos and line drawings off the internet to use.
This piece is etched brass with a black patina that was sanded off to reveal the etched image but I left some of the patina on the raised surface, I think it looks like clouds. The brass is backed with sterling silver with a partial sterling frame attached with silver rivets with brass heads.
Gorgeous, oh so gorgeous. The patina blotches on the raised surface remind me of an old photograph, and the telephone pole has such a loneliness to it. I've been wanting to try my hand in etching for quite some time.

Oh, that looks great. Can you tell me how you did this? I have some brass at home, that i would like to etch, but i don't know how. What accid do you use ? Do you know a good tut somewhere on the internet? Sorry for bothering you
Lol it's not problem at all! dA is all about sharing art and info right?
I used an etching solution we had at school I could scan my notes and send them to you. I also found something on dA, a tutorial for etching base metals without using acid, I'll see if I can find it for you. I haven't tried it but it looked interesting. Yay etching without harmful chemicals!
There's a pretty detailed tut. on etching an altoids tin with electricity and salt water here. I don't know for sure but I think you should be able to use the same technique to do copper or other base metals if you use another piece of copper as the annode (two bolts in the tut). I have some more literature on this in my notes somewhere. I'll get them for you in a day or two, really busy today.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
